In 2024, the authority completed and commissioned several critical power infrastructure projects, including:

  • Bac Ninh 500kV substation and associated transmission lines
  • Thanh Hoa – Nho Quan – Ha Tinh 500kV transmission line.
  • Thanh Hoa 500kV substation.

Furthermore, 2024 marked a significant milestone in the enhancement of the legal framework governing the competitive electricity market, particularly with regard to pricing mechanisms for renewable energy and rooftop solar projects. These regulatory advancements have created favorable conditions for business investment while safeguarding the interests of consumers.

Implementation of 2025 Objectives: Accelerating the Energy Transition

The year 2025 marks a pivotal phase in the 2025–2030 socio-economic development strategy, necessitating continued investment and expansion in the energy sector. The Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority has outlined key strategic objectives, including:

  • Enhancing power grid investment: Completing and commissioning new infrastructure projects to ensure stable electricity transmission.
  • Promoting offshore wind power projects: Expanding electricity exports and leveraging Vietnam’s vast potential in this sector.
  • Reviving nuclear power initiatives: Assessing feasibility and developing an appropriate roadmap aligned with global clean energy trends.
  • Advancing digital technology in power system management and operations: Improving efficiency and reducing energy losses.
  • Refining regulatory frameworks Addressing challenges in investment licensing for renewable energy projects to encourage greater private sector participation.

In particular, solar energy development remains a priority. Under the latest national energy plan, Vietnam aims to increase solar power capacity to 30.4 GW by 2030, more than doubling its previous target. In Da Nang, the city has set an ambitious goal to equip at least 80% of public buildings with rooftop solar systems by 2025, promoting renewable energy adoption and alleviating pressure on the national grid.
