Gia Lai has emerged as a prominent pioneer in renewable energy development, significantly contributing to sustainable socio-economic growth. According to Mr. Rah Lan Chung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee, energy is a core sector that ensures national security and promotes the sustainable development agenda. <\/span><\/p>\n

With its exceptional natural conditions, Gia Lai is ideally positioned to advance renewable energy projects. The province enjoys an average of 1,900\u20132,200 sunshine hours annually, with solar radiation levels ranging from 4.6 to 5.2 kWh\/m\u00b2\/day, offering solar power potential of up to 7,500 MW. Additionally, with an average wind speed of 6-7 m\/s, Gia Lai has the capacity to develop wind energy projects generating up to 12,000 MW. <\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, the province sustainably harnesses its biomass resources, producing approximately 620,000 tons annually, including 520,000 tons of sugarcane byproducts and 100,000 tons of other organic waste. This allows for an additional capacity of up to 850 MW.<\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of infrastructure, Gia Lai lies at the crossroads of 500 kV transmission lines spanning north to south, which facilitates efficient power distribution to key regions nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

Key Achievements<\/b><\/h3>\n

To date, Gia Lai has planned and implemented 26 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1,872.4 MW, comprising 17 wind power projects (808.4 MW) and nine solar power projects. Notably, Gia Lai currently leads the country in the number of wind energy projects. <\/span><\/p>\n

The renewable energy sector has driven remarkable improvements in local infrastructure, including transportation, irrigation, electricity, and clean water systems, significantly transforming rural areas. These projects have also created thousands of jobs, boosting incomes and enhancing the quality of life for local residents. <\/span><\/p>\n

The province\u2019s total budget revenue in 2023 reached VND 5,890 billion, marking a 5.83% increase compared to the previous year, with a substantial portion derived from energy projects. Remarkably, renewable energy development has also spurred local tourism. In 2024, Gia Lai is projected to welcome roughly 1,340,000 visitors, an 11.7% increase, generating an estimated income of VND 890 billion from tourism activities. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gia Lai remains committed to advancing key policies, including Resolution 55-NQ\/TW on the National Energy Development Strategy, with a strong focus on green energy initiatives. The province prioritizes environmental protection, improving residents’ quality of life, and establishing a robust foundation for sustainable development.
