Vietnam has recently reached a significant agreement with Malaysia and Singapore on the export of renewable energy, marking a strategic step toward realizing the ASEAN Power Grid and strengthening sustainable energy cooperation in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the afternoon of May 26, in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), within the framework of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong witnessed the signing ceremony of a trilateral cooperation agreement on renewable electricity exports.<\/p>\n

This event not only holds symbolic significance but also represents a critical starting point for trilateral collaboration. It underscores a shared commitment to establishing cross-border clean electricity trade\u2014recognized as a key element in the sustainable energy transition in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n

Vietnam: The Emerging Hub of Renewable Energy in the Region<\/strong><\/h3>\n

According to the agreement, Malaysia will cooperate with the PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), a subsidiary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), and Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries (Singapore). The parties will jointly harness Vietnam’s abundant offshore wind power potential to generate clean electricity for Malaysia and Singapore, transmitted via a subsea cable connecting to Malaysia\u2019s national grid. <\/p>\n

In parallel, the parties will also collaborate in studying the integration of supplementary power sources and the development of energy storage systems to ensure the stability and efficiency of cross-border electricity supply.<\/p>\n

The signing of this agreement not only aims to enhance technical connectivity but also paves the way for a replicable model of cross-border renewable energy cooperation throughout the region. This partnership is expected to serve as a foundation for the development of green energy infrastructure on a regional scale, contributing significantly to decarbonization and the energy transition in Southeast Asia. <\/p>\n

Additionally, all parties have committed to close coordination with the respective national authorities to ensure that project approval, development, and operation processes are conducted effectively and transparently.<\/p>\n

Towards a Flexible and Sustainable ASEAN Power Grid<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The renewable electricity export agreement among Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore is a concrete example of efforts to realize the vision of an ASEAN power grid, where member countries can efficiently and flexibly share energy resources.<\/p>\n
